Save Future Home of Writer Joseph Kugelmass
Save Future Home of Writer Joseph Kugelmass
Why this petition matters
This house, or rather whichever house gets picked for this, will have been the home of writer Joseph Kugelmass. It will be maintained in a museum state that perfectly reproduces the actual way it will have looked when Kugelmass lived and worked there, including him actually being there, living, working, writing, sleeping, and eating granola bars, during regular business hours. It needs to be preserved in perfect condition for it to be the house where he will have done some of his best (as yet unwritten) work.
This is probably Suffolk County's only chance to act now to preserve, rent-free, the house that will be of immense historical value in the near future. And it's important to act now, before the historical interest begins to accrue, and the house becomes too expensive. This is an incredible bargain as well as an act of cultural preservation. If we wait until Kugelmass has already produced many of the books for which he will be best known -- several decades from now -- a completely different petition will have to be created, and maintained, and submitted to officials who might not even be born yet.
