*** June 2023 Update:

We succeeded at raising awareness with over 16,000 signatures against this unconscionable, racist video game - delaying its release since this petition was launched two years ago. Unfortunately, it looks like the popular online gaming platform Steam has now agreed to release it on June 23rd. But we still have the power to stop it. Please share widely so we can get to 17,500 signatures and more.

You can read all the details about the release and global controversy here.

Original petition letter applies, but now directed at Steam:

Victura and Highwire Games just announced the release a horrific video game called Six Days in Fallujah that promotes the mass murder of Iraqis by American invaders. To add insult to injury, a demo of the game was circulated on the the 18th anniversary of the Iraq War, an illegal invasion and occupation by US forces and their allies. This was an international war crime that included the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and the displacement even more. Bombing, shooting, and humiliating the Iraqi people is being normalized in this sick video game, which will also inevitably condition gamers into thinking RACISM IS OK.

An excerpt from an article on the demo of the game:

"The video focuses on the squad tactics you’ll use to break into people’s homes and “clear” them of “enemies.” It highlights how layouts will constantly change to capture the feeling of not knowing what you’ll find every time you step into a new room. The gameplay ends with the player busting into a room where a family of four hides in the corner hoping to not get murdered. The video then cuts to real-life documentary footage as a resident of Fallujah explains that their dad refused to leave the city during the assault."

We, the undersigned, want:

  • The cancellation of the release of Six Days in Fallujah.
  • Video game developers and publishers to start taking responsibility and carefully consider the toxic Iraq-related games that they may be working on.
  • An end to the commodification and trivialization of Iraqi death in mainstream media because the Iraq War was a crime against humanity, not inspiration for entertainment.

PLEASE SIGN AND FORWARD TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW.

TOGETHER WE CAN STOP THIS MADNESS. War is not normal. Video games that dehumanize Iraqi people for profit ARE NOT OK. American game developers have been creating sick games like this since the first Gulf War in Iraq in the 90s, normalizing the killing of Iraqis for the next round. THIS HAS TO STOP.
