Traditionally, James Madison University has named buildings of importance after its presidents. For example, Samuel Page Duke with Duke Hall and the mascot, Duke Dog, Ronald Carrier with Carrier Library, and Linwood Rose with Rose Library. After observing many students on campus and previous alumni refer to the Atlantic Union Bank Center, which is currently under construction, as the Algerdome, I would like for this to be brought formally to the university's attention to consider renaming the new convocation center. The impact of the convocation center is that in addition to having a new home for the men's and women's basketball teams, it will also host graduation ceremonies, student gatherings, and other events for the Shenandoah Valley. Not only will it be a great revenue source for the university, it will also be a cultural icon for the JMU men's and women's basketball teams, especially for tight playoffs where a significant portion of the student body is at the game. Sometimes a change in title is all it takes for an impact to go from big to monumental; this alteration, or should one say Algeration, will allow students to become more engaged with the new convocation center: The Algerdome.
