I am not petitioning this for antagonistic purposes. I am doing this to be constructive, bring people together for a common cause.

Before reading the following petition, know that Todd Philips HATES Extended Cuts personally. But you never know until you let your voice be heard. Maybe he'll be sympathetic. Even if you thought the theatrical cut was perfect, you could definitely see why one would think it's, well.....near-perfect.

I have just seen "Joker" as of Thurs., Oct. 3rd 2019 in cinemas. Prior to this date, this movie was marred by controversy - which most likely led to its unfair Rotten Tomatoes score. Yeah lol, it's unjustifiably low. That's not to say, though, that I (personally) didn't notice a bit of a glaring issue with the movie, which is......the climax is too short.

Everything else works fantastically, though - the acting, the experimental nature of the editing, the character study aesthetic, cinematography, direction, etc. All that needs work is just the final act. It does seem like it is missing some parts. And none of this is Philips' fault - he mentioned the original cut being 2 and a half hours, but had to be cut to fill theater timeslots. So now we're left with kind of an "incomplete masterpiece", as I put it.

People might disagree with my criticism, though, or maybe they'll need to watch this movie a couple more times - and that's fine. I was thinking of doing it, myself. This film IS unique. It brings to life a more grounded Joker - not as over-the-top, more down-to-earth. When people say this is a masterpiece, I BELIEVE EVERY WORD OF IT. I just can see that some of the content looks to be missing from this movie in the third act. Art is subjective, though.

This small, but vital issue is why I present to you a change.org petition for the director's cut of "Joker". If this campaign succeeds, I think we will get the masterpiece we've truly bargained for all the way. We need to show every ounce of appreciation for Phoenix and Philips' efforts to freshen up a beloved DC icon. Preservation of artistic value is paramount within a state-led society. Keep the theatrical cut in the home media release, though - some might prefer that one.

Whether you're okay with how the movie is or you want a director's cut and see my small problem with the movie, you'll probably still be curious about the original cut of "Joker" and what else it has to offer. And if that curiosity gets the better of you, SIGN THIS PETITION. LET'S DO IT.
