Why this petition matters

Started by Helen HE

The BBC Daily Bitesize lessons have been a lifeline to many parents across the UK during lockdown.  They offer straightforward, easy to use lessons for all age groups.  The government sponsored offering, Oak Academy, can be difficult to use for some children who prefer the intuitive and familiar nature of Bitesize.

However, all of these lessons are being removed on Monday 27th July so no children or parents will be able to access them.  BESA (British Educational Suppliers Association), which represents online educational suppliers, have pressurised the BBC to remove the lessons as they essentially give material to parents and children for 'free' (even though we pay for the BBC licence) and they want parents to have to pay for it by using the companies they represent.

This will hit the nation's children and parents hard.  Children have already been the forgotten sufferers of this pandemic by the government as many parents tried to juggle working and homeschooling.  The summer holidays was a chance to help them catch up and now a vital resource is being taken away from us all.

We have 2 WEEKS to stop this from happening and force the BBC and BESA into a U turn.  Please support us!
