Why this petition matters

Started by Stephanie West

KCBS is a non-profit organization under Missouri law. Although it has a Code of Conduct that requires written notification to members of an alleged violation and right to appeal, it also has contradictory language leaving it to the discretion of the Board whether to follow this process. The process has not been followed in regards to termination of Contest Representatives, who are classified as Independent Contractors yet typically arise from the general membership after many, many years of faithful volunteering. In particular Phillip Brazier - who served as a highly esteemed contest representative for 19 years (approx 30 years as a faithful member volunteer) who was recently terminated by the KCBS Board of Directors without explanation and without opportunity to appeal.  In fact, the contractual agreement that Contest Representatives must sign does not provide any recourse to appeal termination or disciplinary action -- they have no voice.  This petition calls for a revision to the Bylaws,  Code of Conduct, and Contest Representative Agreements of KCBS, aptly named "The Phillip Amendment", to ensure members and associates, including Contest Representatives, are provided written notification of alleged misconduct or reason for termination and an opportunity to appeal prior to termination of their membership and/or independent contract. Note, the advocates of this petition are not in any way involved in the specific case of Phillip Brazier; we are calling for transparency in his termination, advocating for his right to appeal, and advocating to improve the viability of the KCBS organization for the long-term.

Please only sign this petition if you are a member of KCBS.
