Why this petition matters

It seems there is no end to the debacle that is the Central Coast Councils' mismanagement of finances and the subsequent poor communication skills they are quickly becoming well known for. Last week Terrigal Bowling Club discovered, by pure chance, that the land in which the 70-year-old Club sits is to be reclassified tomorrow in order to sell.

Whilst the sale of council assets may be seen as a positive step to bail out the Councils’ incompetence, the lack of communication is yet another nail in the coffin to residents and businesses. Not content with increasing rates, the council now wishes to reduce our ability to socialise, keep active and enjoy where we live, and they wish to do it with as few knowing as possible, even the affected tenants.

The land in which Terrigal Bowling Club proudly stands is steeped in history, built by passion and dedication to the sport of lawn bowls and with the desire to provide a place in which the whole community can enjoy.

In 2019, Terrigal Bowling Club secured a 5-year extension to their land lease with Central Coast Council, with part of that agreement requiring the club to invest $750,000 to upgrade the Club’s facilities. The club kept up their end of the bargain with these works being completed in 2020.

Terrigal Bowling Club not only offers recreational sport to all ages but supports many local community and sporting groups including Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club, Donnica Clarke Foundation, Crusaders Basketball and Terrigal Community Centre amongst others.

The Club currently holds a lease until 30 April 2024 but the future after this point appears non-existent in the eyes of the Council, unfortunately.

The Council had originally suggested that the Club could be relocated to the recreational grounds where Breakers Basketball Courts area situated. However, having viewed the Tranche 3 – Land Requiring Reclassification and Rezoning - asset efficiencies and sales project - it seems this land in Terrigal is also on the agenda to be sold.

So where exactly do the Council propose the future of the club sites and thus is the community activities, sport and recreational activities not seen as an important part of the Central Coasts future?

It would be incredibly disappointing if 70 years of a proud history could be thrown away due to the financial mismanagement of local government.

What we want is for the council to meet with us to agree upon a suitable plan of action prior to the reclassification of the land which we proudly sit.

We would love your support to save our much-loved and important community club.
