Why this petition matters

Vaping is a major health issue. Despite of this and the fact that it is not a FDA-approved cessation method, many youth and adults continue to vape and flavoring is one of the major reason why.

A study of middle and high school students found that 43 percent of young people who ever used e-cigarettes tried them because of appealing flavors.

In 2019, approximately 32 percent of Louisiana high school students identified as current vape users.

Fifteen percent of Louisiana middle school students also identified as a current vape user. That number almost doubled between 2017 and 2019, and has tripled since 2015. This is especially concerning because of the young age at which these extremely dangerous products are being introduced to students, coupled with the fact that they are highly addictive.

A 2016 study, showed that 18.6% of  Louisiana adults are current vape users and of those, 54.9% were vaping to help them quit cigarettes.

Using vaping products can have serious consequences. The nicotine you get in one vape pod can actually be more than an entire pack of cigarettes. Heavy nicotine use can also prime adolescent brains for future substance use.

Our goal is to prevent the initiation of vaping use among young people and detour its use a cessation device.
