D'Quan Young was 24 years old when he was fatally shot by an off duty police officer in 2018 in Washington D.C. Details of his case are inconsistent with witness accounts and public police statements. Some witnesses state that the officer shot at D'Quan as he was running away from the officer, shooting wildly as residents ran for their lives and hitting cars. Police statements suggest that there was an exchange between D'Quan and the off duty officer as the officer was heading to a cookout that ended in D'Quan's death.The officer was on paid administrative leave, but has since been put back on the force. Evidence and video footage has not been released to the Young family or the public.

We would like to spread awareness of this case happening in our community and demand answers from MPD and Mayor Bowser. D'Quan Young was a son, cousin, nephew, friend, and father. The lack of transperancy and accountability within the police department across the world specifically pertaining to black bodies is unacceptable. We must take action against it so please sign, share, and educate yourself on police brutality cases in your own communities.
