Why this petition matters

Started by J F

On July 14th 2020, an 89 year old Asian American woman was approached by two young men who slapped her, set her shirt on fire, and fled. This crime took place in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn NYC and the perpetrators have still not been found. The perpetrators did not attempt to rob the woman and there is no known motive. Anti-Asian American hate crimes are on the rise, yet this incident is not being investigated as a hate crime.

Racism against Asian Americans is rampant, especially during this pandemic. In June, Anti-Chinese posters were displayed in a neighborhood near the crime scene. The President of the United States calls Covid-19 the "Chinese Virus" & the "Kung Flu", even though WHO officials have warned against these stigmatizing names. Do not turn a blind eye to this. This crime is part of an alarming pattern that must be addressed.

Fortunately, the victim was able to put out the fire before sustaining any serious injuries.

DEMAND JUSTICE FOR ASIAN AMERICANS. FIND THE TWO MEN WHO COMMITTED THIS CRIME. INVESTIGATE THIS AS A HATE CRIME.
