Why this petition matters

Started by Pace University

Since its founding in 1906, Pace University has transformed the lives of thousands across the globe. From its humble beginnings as a one-room accounting school in Lower Manhattan, it has grown to become one of the largest universities in New York, cementing its place in the landscape of lower Manhattan.

In fact, Pace is ranked the #1 private, four-year college in the nation for upward economic mobility by Harvard University’s Opportunity Insights, evidence of the transformative education the University provides.

Pace’s NYC Campus, which is home to more than 9,000 students, is in the midst of a transformation. In January 2019, Pace unveiled the first phase of its $190M master plan which includes expanded student spaces, colloquia, meeting and conference rooms, and floor-to-ceiling windows which serve to bring our downtown neighborhood in, but also to let our neighbors see us.

And for more than 100 years, Pace University has been an upstanding member of the community. Just last summer, the NYC Mayor's Office recognized Pace University among the top three colleges and universities for total volunteers and commitment to service. In 2017, Pace had more than 1,699 volunteers complete 30,899 hours with nonprofits across NYC.

Pace University is currently asking the MTA to revisit their "Legacy Policy" and ask for the school’s name to be included on signage and in announcements at the Fulton Street (2/3/4/5/A/C/J/Z) subway station. Currently, six other colleges in New York City have had their names added to subway stops, including Columbia University; NYU; CCNY; and Hunter, Brooklyn, and Lehman Colleges.

If you’d like to see Pace University’s name included at one of our local subway stops, please sign and share our petition.
