Give young adults with Down's syndrome the option to repeat a year of college
Why this petition matters
Joe and Aidan have big plans for the future. Both want a job, their own home and a partner to share their life with. However, their future hangs in the balance because both young men, who have Down's syndrome, have missed out on crucial learning, skills development and work experience.
The pandemic has meant that many young adults who have Down's syndrome have not been able to attend college due to being on the Critically Extremely Vulnerable list. They have not had the face-to-face interactions, repetition of real-life skills and opportunity for work experience needed for transition into adulthood.
We want the Government to ring-fence funding for young adults with Down’s Syndrome who were put on the Critically Extremely Vulnerable list and asked to shield to enable them to repeat a year of college or access other support.
This support would make a massive difference to the many young adults with Down’s syndrome like Joe and Aidan who have been #lostinlockdown and whose opportunities have been limited because of circumstances out of their control.
