Why this petition matters

Started by Hollywood Insider

Hollywood Insider has started this petition to request Apple and Google to fix a hurtful error on its maps. Mount Everest, the tallest peak on Earth, is located in Nepal and the country is famous for it - without question. We need signatures from people ALL over the world, from people in Nepal PLUS people in ALL other countries that believe in holding superpower-organizations such as Google/Apple accountable for the dangerous disinformation they, intentionally or unintentionally, are spreading. For many, Nepal and Mount Everest are synonymous with each other - it is a hurtful and distressing error.

Hollywood Insider CEO Pritan Ambroase remarks, "Rather than being a political issue, this is a moral one. Mount Everest, its peak and its location being in Nepal is beyond debate or ever-changing political ambitions."

Check your iPhone and Google maps - do you see the error?

So how has Apple Maps and Google Maps failed to identify its correct geographical location as Nepal and instead placed it in Tibet/China? The mistake is more significant than a simple technological error- it has stripped the small country of Nepal of its natural wonder, its national landmark and a significant recognition point for their homeland.

Buddhi Narayan Shrestha, an internationally recognized and award-winning expert surveyor/maps researcher asserts, "The location of Mount Everest being labeled in China, is completely wrong, whether it was done intentionally or by mistake. The southern part of Mount Everest which includes the peak - the highest point of the mountain - is located fully in Nepal. In 1960, Chinese Prime Minister Zhou Enlai accepted that Nepal has full ownership of Mount Everest's peak."

We look forward to Google and Apple fixing this error and restoring the pride of Nepal.
