Why this petition matters

Started by Go Dark

PLEASE READ: Starting Juneteenth, we the people, will boycott America's largest non-black owned streaming corporations until provided with evidence that they endorse bills, initiatives, and/or social justice campaigns and organizations that are designed to benefit black lives in America and institute systemic change. This will require full transparency surrounding their current and future plans to bring awareness to the civil rights legislature that we demand they advocate for and/or donating hundreds of millions of dollars to organizations designed to protect and preserve black culture. This will also require a public statement precisely detailing their efforts, and urging all their customers and stakeholders to follow in their footsteps.

Until these demands are met we will continue to boycott white-owned subscriptions services!

FYI: Juneteenth falls in the middle of a billing cycle this year. Not only do black-owned alternatives exist (just like with every business) but canceling your subscription so it doesn't automatically renew won't limit your access to any platform for at least another two weeks to a month.  However, the rightful and long-overdue shift of power will be immediately recognized by American citizens, corporations, and the global news cycle if everyone who considers themselves an ally for black lives participates and cancels their subscriptions!

For the first time in history we want to globally demonstrate just how powerful the collective voice and dollar, specifically those of African-American's (valued at 1.2 Trillion), can be when amplified by the lobbying power of a whole industry threatened by total collapse. We will essentially hold these corporations "hostage"  with the threat of permanently losing up 70% of their users in a mass un subscribing event on Juneteenth. We will not renew our subscriptions until major white-owned streaming giants (Spotify, Hulu, Disney+, Apple Music, Amazon, and even Netflix) reinvest back into black lives. We will also educate boycotters on the many black-owned alternatives that exist in order to push circulating and retention of the black dollar in black communities and business!

Project #GoDark is a movement designed to force the hand of major corporations to lobby for human rights, starting with those in the streaming economy. Join us in our fight to eradicate white supremacy and reform policing in our country. -- on Juneteenth (June 19th) we pledge to halt our spending through a series of strategically timed boycotts to commemorate our people’s liberation in 1865. By participating in project #GoDark you can play a significant role in forcing major corporations to make the systemic change we want to see now for our people.

The following are some examples of  bills, initiatives, and social justice campaigns we demand these corporations1) successfully lobby for 2) bring awareness to and 3) donate to, including a public statement that uses appropriate and pointed language urging all their customers and stakeholders to follow in their footsteps.
