Recently Austin College has made the decision to terminate the Track and Cross Country programs. This decision not only further limits athletic opportunities on campus, but also removes all opportunities to recruit new students who are considering Austin College for these programs specifically. By cutting athletic programs it is highly unlikely the college will retain those student athletes the following year—and even more importantly the years to come. Austin College stands to provide fortuities to students— limiting opportunity fundamentally contradicts Austin College’s past but also it’s legacy. We need to broaden and enhance opportunities at AC. With unity amongst AC students there is nothing we cannot do.
