Soy Andrés y hoy estoy alzando mi voz por los ríos en Ecuador. Exijo al Ministro de Turismo, Niels Olsen, y al ministro de ambiente, agua y transición ecológica, Gustavo Manrique, que se establezcan medidas especiales de protección para los ríos con valores naturales y culturales excepcionales, como parte de una estrategia nacional para la conservación de la biodiversidad y conectividad de los ecosistemas acuáticos de agua dulce.

¿Por qué esto es importante? por el visible deterioro y perdida de la calidad e integridad de los ríos y ecosistemas acuáticos de agua dulce en Ecuador, la ausencia de medidas de protección y manejo para los ríos de interés turístico y la falta de su consideración en la planificación y desarrollo. Además de la urgente necesidad de preservar algunos ríos intactos en su estado natural para la conservación de la biodiversidad y conectividad de los ecosistemas de agua dulce, como destinos para el deporte y turismo de aventura para apoyar el cambio de la matriz productiva, como mecanismo de mitigación del cambio climático, y para servir como estándares de referencia para la calidad de determinados ecosistemas e indicadores para la Naturaleza en su estado puro.

La FUNDACIÓN RÍO NAPO, y los ciudadanos nacionales y/o extranjeros que firman en conjunto, solicitamos a su distinguida autoridad para declarar de interés público y prioridad la formulación de políticas sobre patrimonio natural nacional, la preservación de la calidad e integridad de los ríos más emblemáticos del país.

PETITION TO PROTECT THE MOST EMBLEMATIC RIVERS IN ECUADOR

⭕️ This is a petition to establish special measures of protection for rivers with exceptional natural and cultural values in the Republic of Ecuador, as part of a national strategy for the conservation of the biodiversity and connectivity of freshwater aquatic ecosystems, and to make the country a leading destination for paddle sports recreation and river based tourism. 

Motivated by the visible deterioration and loss of the quality and integrity of freshwater aquatic rivers and ecosystems in Ecuador, the absence of protection and management measures for rivers of interest for tourism, and the lack of their consideration in planning and development, as well as the urgent need to preserve some intact rivers in their natural state for the conservation of biodiversity and connectivity of freshwater ecosystems, as destinations  for  sport and adventure tourism to support the change of the productive matrix,  as a mechanism for climate change mitigation, and to serve as reference standards for the quality of certain ecosystems and indicators for Nature in its pure state;

⭕️ The RIO NAPO FOUNDATION, and the national and/or foreign citizens who sign together, request your distinguished authority to declare of public interest and priority in the formulation of policies on national natural heritage, the preservation of the quality and integrity of the most emblematic rivers of the country, which possess exceptional natural values, landscape, recreational, geological, fish, plants and wildlife, historical, cultural and/or other similar extraordinary qualities, which are strategic for both recreational uses and adventure tourism, as well as for the conservation of biodiversity and connectivity of their aquatic ecosystems.
