Due to the many cases of police brutality that continue to happen, and how easily it is for police officers to get away with such crimes. It is evident that exists a very low standard of education that police officers have. People’s safety are put in the hands of police officers but it seems that more and more people aren’t trusting cops to protect them anymore. There’s something odd in the standards require to become a police officer. Most cops aren’t even required to have a college degree. Although, they are required to complete the police academy it’s just not enough time invested in teaching them everything that is necessary to become a well rounded person. Which means that almost any high school graduate after the age of 21 can become responsible for your safety. Having a degree takes times, effort and passion. Police officers should not be in for the money but for something greater. Which is to truly care for the safety of all citizens. A college degree would weed out candidates that are desperate to earn money and that don’t necessarily have the correct maturity to do what’s right. A degree would help to lower the likelihood that officers will use force as their first option to gain compliance. Raise the police standards of education because this will help to have better officers with problem-solving skills. Police officers need a college degree.
