Why this petition matters

Started by Real Exposures

"In New Jersey, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 8 boys will be sexually assaulted before they turn 18. Real Exposures, along with many other organizations nationwide, have been working tirelessly to gather evidence to bring child predators to justice, and to help protect these victims. While we are proud of the foundation we have built in New Jersey, with every success it seems there are constant roadblocks due to current laws.

As the law currently stands, even if evidence is gathered by a third party following current law enforcement guidelines, a sexual predator may not be charged with a crime. This is simply because the evidence was not gathered by law enforcement, and there is no victim. We all know that having these predators within our communities is not protecting our children. We should not have to wait for our children to become one of the 5,251 reported online child exploitation cases in New Jersey this year ALONE for action to be taken.

Our organization is looking for the following changes in New Jersey to continue to protect our children and communities:

1. Third party evidence should be used for a case even if there is not a victim.
2. There should not have to be a victim for a case. The cases that our organization have formed, all have the predators stated explicitly what their intentions are with the minor. Most even come into our State to meet up with children, and some with the intention of bringing the minors over State lines.
3. Law Enforcement should have the ability to take on these cases without the current statutes standing in their way.
4. Organizations, such as ours, should have to abide by law enforcement protocols and standards while gathering evidence.
5. New Jersey's Government needs to make sure that communication apps have safeguards in place to make sure minors can not be exposed to predators.

The laws in New Jersey need to be changed. We need to do all we can to protect our children, and that starts with you! We are asking for your help in taking the first steps towards real change, and that is signing this petition. Each signature will ensure that we are able to continue to help children not just in New Jersey, but across the Nation.
