Why this petition matters

Started by Biggar and District Civic Society

The Greenhills Covenanters' House Museum is a seventeenth century farmhouse which was brought to Biggar from Wiston stone by stone in 1975. The building was donated to Biggar Museum Trust as a living history museum showing how local people lived at the time of the Covenanting Movement.

Since Biggar Museum Trust built a new museum on Biggar High St in 2015 they have not used this building, and have now put it up for sale.

The Covenanters' House Museum is an important part of the history of Clydesdale, and should remain an asset for the community. If Biggar Museum Trust are not willing to find another use for it themselves they should offer it to another community group rather than sell it on the open market.

Those who worked so hard to preserve the building thought that giving it to the Museum Trust would safguard its future. Sadly this has not turned out to be the case.

Please ask Biggar Museum Trust to take the Greenhills Covenanters' House off the market and work with other community groups to explore new uses for it.
