Why this petition matters

Started by Lydia MacKinnon

The Post Office at the top of the iconic Main Street in the Brontë village of Haworth has been earmarked for closure, and a Post Office counter will be opened in the new Co-op, half a mile away on Station Road.  The Main Street Post Office is a family-run business which for decades has served both the local community and the many visitors to Haworth.  It is relied on by residents who can easily walk to it.  The Co-op  is at least a 15 minute walk away, down a very steep hill, which will make access very difficult for people who live around the top of Haworth.  In ice and snow it will be practically impossible to access safely on foot. The Main Street Post Office provides a wide range of Post Office services which will not all be available from a counter in the Co-op.  People using a Post Office counter in a shop often feel rushed by queues and not all retail staff are trained to use the Post Office counter, which inevitably results in delays and frustration.  The Post Office on Haworth Main Street is an invaluable local resource which we do not wish to lose and we urge the Post Office to revise their decision to close it.
