Why this petition matters

Started by Queer AF Brighton

Dear Jeremy Corbyn, Leader of the Labour Party,

Please find below an open letter signed by trans, queer, feminist and antifascist communities, who will not stand for transphobia in our country.

WPUK used the Labour Party to promote transphobic rhetoric, and justify hate crime, this is unacceptable.

The World Transformed at which you gave a speech on Saturday evening, already came out against WPUK for transphobia and asked delegates to support Queer AF Brighton’s: Say No To Transphobia, Brighton protest.

Follow the lead of other Labour Party groups and members who have already come out against WPUK this week under Labour’s stance to oppose transphobia; such as, Labour Party Conference (Tom Barringer, Tottenham CLP and Gwyneth Brain, LGBT+ Officer for Bristol South Labour Party) and London Young Labour.

You came out in solidarity with our community on Trans Day of Remembrance, supporting us to stand up against this discrimination, persecution and violence. Lest we forget that transgender hate crime has risen by 81% in the last year and with all hate crime comes more death.

We demand that you (Jeremy Corbyn) stand by your promises to support our community and to hold WPUK accountable as a hate group propagating transgender hate speech in the Labour Party’s name.

We sign this letter as those engaged in intersectional and inclusive feminist work, fighting for the liberation of ALL women. There is no debate, transgender rights are human rights and our struggles are feminist.

Transgender people are welcome in our spaces, and we will work to ensure that Brighton and beyond is a safe place for all trans people to be.

Yours sincerely,
Queer AF Brighton.
