Why this petition matters

Started by Richard Cumming

Moray Council are to re-introduce car parking charges from 1st August 2020 in Elgin town centre - the only area in Moray with parking charges. This is flying in the face of public safety during a pandemic and getting businesses back open!

Who is responsible for cleaning the revenue making payment machines?

With the re-introduction of parking charges Elgin town centre is being penalised by Moray Council. With parking charges only affecting the Elgin town centre - other towns and retail parks will be naturally more appealing to the general public.

With some businesses not having even re-opened when this decision has been made Moray Council have shown their complete disregard for the businesses.

The businesses understand charges need to come back at some point but after months of lockdown and no consultation with actual businesses - the decision was made under powers granted to Moray Council's Chief Executive - allegedly after consultation with a number of councillors.

We ask Moray Council to kindly consider the implications of introducing car park charges at this early stage. Lower footfall, lower business income which in turn will affect employment and businesses remaining open.
