Why this petition matters

Started by OPS

This petition is on the Unceded Coast Salish Territories xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh).

Recently, DTES Street Market Manager, Tracey Axelsson has been trying to enforce new regulations that stigmatize and put drug users in danger:

  • NO using in the DTES Street Market
  • NO harm reduction gear available in the DTES Street Market
  • NO overdose response within the DTES Street Market

People will always use drugs within the market - forcing them into using in secrecy is DANGEROUS.

  • No access to clean gear puts them in danger of sharing "used" equipment.
  • Not having an Oxygen tank and trained overdose response within the market could be the meaning between life and death.

Therefore we, the undersigned, ask for the removal of Tracey Axelsson as DTES manager.
