Congressional Inquiry into the events leading to the death of Miriam Carey on October 3, 2013
Why this petition matters
As per the Declaration of Independence " We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal and are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, such as Life, LIberty and the Pursuit of Happiness..." None of these were afforded to Miriam Carey, a single mom who was unarmed and posed no threat to national security and was not afforded the opportunity given to others who have encountered law enforcement on or around the premises that include the White House to explain her actions or due process. We the people for whom government is to serve have the right to insist on an inqquiry by our government representatives into the actions taken by law enforcement on that day and we respectfully do so with the belief that in this case as in all cases justice will be served. It is our belief that a dangerous precedent is served when an unarmed individual in a moving vehicle is fired upon by law enforcement in a densely populated area and that it ultimately is a public hazard. The events and actions of all involved in this case must be reviewed and where indicated, action taken to insure that this unfortunate situaiton is not repeated and that the public at large are not placed into danger or harm by law enforcement unintentionally.
As per the case Tennesee v. Garner the Supreme Court has ruled that the use of deadly force against a non-violent fleeing felon is unconstitutional. Keep in mind Miriam was NOT a felon. In this case a congressional review is warranted and necessary
