Why this petition matters

Started by Mohammed Azam

 The Rt. Hon. Boris Johnson MP.

 Prime Minister of United Kingdom.

 10 Downing Street London.

The Jammu Kashmir self –Determination Movement International (JKSDMI), a lobby group of cross party activists urges the international community, in particular the British and the European Parliamentarians, to support our call for a safe, peaceful, secure and a prosperous future for the peoples of Jammu & Kashmir, and the whole region.

The issue of Kashmir has been around for over 70 years and has seen many thousands killed, thousands raped, many thousands of disappearances, and at least three wars fought over it. India and Pakistan, both nuclear powers, have tried to resolve this issue as a bi-lateral concern without any success.

The Indian Government’s unilateral revocation of articles 370 and 35A from their constitution without any engagement or regard to the Kashmiri people is a grave concern. Removal of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and in effect imposing direct rule from India is wholly undemocratic, fails to recognise the historic context of Jammu and Kashmir, and is contrary to article 1 of the United Nations Charter.

The reported use of cluster munitions on unarmed civilians, the shutdown of the internet and all external communications and local politicians being placed under house arrest add to the concerns raised in the recent United Nations human rights report (UNCHR OHC – Update of the situation of Human Rights in Indian-Administered Kashmir and Pakistan-Administered Kashmir from May 2018 to April 2019) dated 8th July 2019 of ongoing human rights abuses across Jammu and Kashmir.

 At least four generations of Kashmiris have suffered the worst Humans Rights violations in the world, how much more must they suffer before the world awakens to their daily suffering?

We, citizens and democrats of the United Kingdom, call on the UK Government and international community to use all diplomatic and economic measures at your disposal to influence the Indian and Pakistan Governments to:

1.      Ensure that democracy is respected and that the Kashmiri people are at the heart of any constitutional reform of the region.

2.      Ensure that United Nations Security Council resolutions on Kashmir are respected, including UNSCR 47 which refers to the peoples of Jammu and Kashmir having the right to self-determination

3.      Respect the 1972 Simla Agreement which refers to the future of Jammu and Kashmir being determined by peaceful means.

4.      Ensure that the rule of law is upheld and human rights are protected by lifting the telecommunications black out and allowing independent, international observers to the Region.

5.      Support the assistance of a United Nations Special Envoy for Kashmir in facilitating a peaceful and sustainable future for Kashmir and all of its peoples.

Please sign below to support the JKSDMI proposals.

Respectfully yours;

 Raja Najabat Hussain Chairman JKSDM International.
