The traffic reduction scheme in West Greenwich (WG) is seriously impacting the East Greenwich (EG) community. In this petition we are asking Greenwich Council to undertake an urgent review of the trial, re-open some of the WG roads and relieve the gridlocked peak traffic and reduce serious air pollution for EG residents.

We request immediate consultation and engagement with Maze Hill, Vanbrugh Fields/Hill, Westcombe Park, EG and WG residents on an improved and holistic traffic solution for the area.

We urge Greenwich Council to consider 5 key areas:

1. The increased heavy traffic on residential roads including Maze Hill and surrounding roads is increasing the health and safety risks, air and noise pollution levels for residents, pedestrians and cyclists.

2. No consideration appears to have been given to the hundreds of local children and families living in EG walking and cycling to and from school, or to the children at schools and nurseries in the area, now subjected to serious levels of pollution during the peak travel times.

3. Roads in EG are main arterial routes to Greenwich Park, Town Centre & the Blackwall Tunnel. 

4. The road closures in WG were done without notice or consultation with EG residents or strategic understanding of the wider traffic implications.

5. The WG road closures coincided with the closure of The Avenue and other road works in the East Greenwich area. We urge the Council to take an integrated approach with the Royal parks and would like to see the Council’s strategic plans for traffic management in Greenwich.
