Why this petition matters

Started by Tom Bridges

Our first responders are those who protect us and possibly save our lives from illegal acts or other emergencies. Yet, there is a small faction of those among us who apparently want to cause them harm and either prevent them from doing their jobs or even cause them harm while they are performing lawful activities or even off duty.

Because the actions of our first responders are vital to maintain the laws and civility in our nation, we, the undersigned, petition the United States Attorney General to make any attack on any first responder, which would include police, firemen, emergency medical technicians, or any other law enforcement officer duly sworn in to uphold the Constitution of the United States, a hate crime.

Four states, Louisiana, Texas, Kentucky, and Mississippi, have already defined these acts as a "hate crime", but this should become a national action. By signing this petition, the undersigned attest to be a citizen of the United States with the rights to demand such an action.
