Mixenden Activity Centre (MAC) has welcomed generations of adults and children; first as a Community Centre, then an Outdoor Centre and now as an Activity Centre, providing opportunities, experiences, support and development for all people within the Calderdale community, and residents beyond also. All of these things being made possible, with highly qualified Instructors that not only have a wealth of knowledge but also with trusted professional practices amongst its Partner Agencies and Stakeholders.

Future generations, in Calderdale, should be able to experience this safe place for all, not an erosion of opportunities. Surely, the driving force from the Council should be to work creatively, with the wealth of experience that works at the Centre and create a legacy for the future and protect the things that bond our communities not isolate them.

With the emergence of Covid-19, we have all seen the many examples of creative thinking that has helped our community overcome adversity. As Petitioners, we are now asking our community elected representatives to embrace that same spirit and place a valued community resource before questionable financial figures. We are asking elected members to ask yourselves this question also; how will Council achieve its Mission Statement – ‘Our vision is to be the most active borough in the north by 2024’ – if it votes to remove the valued resource that is MAC and those that have given it the positive reputation that it deserves?
