Why this petition matters

Started by Lola Banire

The announcement of the stamp duty freeze came as a blow to my family, we completed in May but with so much hardship as we had to use all our savings to pay for stamp duty (even till now we don't have any furniture in our house), I know many families in this situation, At the time, there was so much pressure from the developers that we were going to lose the house if we didn't complete so we had no choice. At the height of the pandemic in March we were hoping and praying that the government would announce the freezing of stamp duty which would have help my family and many others greatly. I am hoping that the government would help and backdate the stamp duty to the start of when the covid-19 started in March, this will help so many of us that forged along despite the hardship to complete and keep the economy going, only then will it be fair to all. I am urging the housing secretary to do the right thing and help us all. This scheme seem like it is penalizing us for completing during the pandemic, I am baffled as all the covid-19 schemes for all other sectors were backdated so why are they not backdating this, Please help me sign this and get the government to do the right thing.
