Why this petition matters

Started by Community Partnership for Selly Oak

The Selly Oak Library is a 'Carnegie' library and was designed by John Osborne. It is Grade 2 listed due its architectural quality, good state of preservation, and importance as part of the civic nucleus of Selly Oak. The library closed in 2018, since then the City have failed to maintain it. The Community Partnership for Selly Oak (CP4SO) has completed a feasibility study and believe the library has a future as a community cafe and shared workspace - under the care of a Community Development Trust. We have a potential tenant but need Birmingham City Council to sell the building before we can get funding to restore it. We therefore call on Birmingham City Council to transfer the building to the Selly Oak Community Development Trust immediately. If they are not going to maintain it and use it they should transfer it to someone who will.
