Why this petition matters

Started by Chris Cornell

Household Waste Recycling Centres are currently shut across Kent due to COVID-19. Government guidance now states that if it is possible these services should remain open as long as social distancing rules can be maintained and there is adequate staffing levels to ensure the health and safety of staff and members of the public.

Since the removal of this service fly-tipping has increased and people with asthma have reported problems relating to more people burning materials on a bonfire.

We the undersigned petition the Council to re-open the Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRC).

We understand there needs to be careful thought given to management of the facilities but the obstacles are not insurmountable and it is not feasible to reduce essential access for those not able to store waste indefinitely.
