Since this petition was created, we have succeeded in protecting our Pre-K through 8th grade students with masks.  However, with recent developments, we are now advocating for universal masking in all grades in the Blue Valley School District.

We are the Blue Valley School District Community.

We are the parents of current and former students, we are BVSD graduates ourselves, we are current and former BVSD teachers and staff, and we are people who care about all the people in our community.

We demand that our state and county governments and our school board protect our youngest members - those under the age of 12 who are ineligible for the COVID-19 vaccine - and mandate masks in all grades where students cannot be vaccinated.  This is in line with guidance from the CDC, the American Association of Pediatrics, the Johnson County Health Department, and Children’s Mercy Hospital.

We know that government officials, school board members, and school district administration have had extremely trying years and have been bullied and threatened as a result.  We thank you for your service to our community and cannot begin to imagine what your work has been like since March 2020.

We support safe in-person learning for all students.  We ask you to please put the health and safety of our youngest community members first and mandate masks for their grades until their vaccinations are approved.
