There is a rule within GHSA (Georgia High School Association) that prevents our kids from wrestling in certain events and against certain wrestlers, in season.  IE: Beast of the East, Iron Man, Powerade, etc...  There are lots of us within the wrestling community that believe this is detrimental to our wrestlers and holds them back from national exposure to college coaches.  We are trying our best to get this rule changed.  

I spoke with my area rep for Region 4-7A and she said in order for it to be voted on by the executive board, it has to go up the chain.  It starts with the coaches presenting a proposal at their upcoming region meetings.  If the coaches at that region meeting all vote to pass this change, it would then go to the principals for a vote.  If the principals vote to pass, (she said she’s never seen principals go against what their coaches wanted) then it goes to the sub committee, which is where it gets a little harder.  We have to present a strong proposal, in hopes for it to be passed up to the executive committee which is where it will obviously be the hardest.

She told me, the more support we have from different regions and classifications, the more likely it would be to pass, as it shows lots of support within our community.

I’m not sure where y’all stand on the matter, but I’m hoping that y’all would be willing to help support our kids.  We are losing kids, left and right to other schools and states that don’t place the same restrictions.  If you look at Baylor’s roster, about half of their kids are GA kids.  We just lost a Fargo AA, an upcoming freshman that is ranked on the big board... the list goes on.  I believe we have lost some extremely valuable kids and it’s a shame.

Our bordering states have all lifted their restrictions that prohibit their wrestlers, yet GA still has restrictions.  I believe, with the success we just had at Fargo, it is prime time to lift these restrictions and give our kids a level playing field.  Let them have more opportunities to be seen by top college coaches, which hopefully will bring those same coaches to our state.  We took less kids than some of these powerhouse states and still managed to place 3rd and 4th in the Country at Fargo.  That is impressive!!!
