Why this petition matters

Started by Elliott Cohen

Andrew Yang was not able to secure the nomination for President of the United States in 2020. However, his fight is not over. Now more than ever, we need to tackle the current and impending problems of the 21st century. Advancements in technology, the threat of automation and artificial intelligence, these things and more will need to receive the resources and attention of the highest office in the land. We need to make sure that the next president, whoever that may be, dedicates a segment of the executive branch to tackling these issues. Just as changes in our environment pose an existential threat to our way of life, so too do changes in technology.

This was a goal that Andrew himself had for his presidency. His idea was to create an executive department that would “work with private industry and Congressional leaders to monitor technological developments, assess risks, and create new guidance.” Let‘s not allow this wish to die along with the campaign. (Here’s the page on his website where he goes into this in detail, although I’m not sure how much longer it’ll be accessible https://www.yang2020.com/policies/regulating-ai-emerging-technologies/)

Let's do our part to ensure that these needs are met so that we can prepare ourselves for the fourth industrial revolution and the new world we will soon be living in. We can start by telling those in the White House to do theirs.
