The Marijuana Justice Act
The Marijuana Justice Act
Why this petition matters
The The Marijuana Justice Act was introduced to the 116th Congress on February 28th, 2019 by Senator Cory Booker. It is a bill to amend the Controlled Substances Act to provide for a new rule regarding the application of the Act to Marijuana. If the bill comes into effect, Marijuana would be legal at the federal level, decriminalized across the entire nation, and those incarcerated with federal marijuana charges will be granted the process of expungement. It would remove marijuana from the list of controlled substances.
31 states legalized medical marijuana use, and 9 states including the District of Columbia have legalized recreational marijuana use. States that have decriminalized marijuana have seen positive health and economic effects. Tax revenue has increased, and less spending is done on arresting and detaining those who are convicted of related crimes. Marijuana also provides numerous medical benefits and medical use of marijuana would be easier to attain.
