Why this petition matters

Started by Mauricio Rubio

It has come to my attention that there is no law in Australia banning the public display of Nazi symbols, flags, etc. on private or public property.

As a country who fought against what those symbols stand for, I believe it is our civic duty to ban this by law. No excuses, no ifs, no buts.

Not doing so is disrespectful to members of our Australian Defence Force, the Jewish Community, people who lost their lives in World War II and their families and to everyone else who considers those symbols a disgrace.

People using the excuse of their German heritage to publicly display these flags and symbols in Australia is simply unacceptable. Even more so, considering that they are actually banned in Germany itself. And beyond that, this is Australia and we do not endorse or support those flags or symbols in any way.

Freedom does not equate to recklessness and disrespect for others. Freedom does not mean you can do whatever you want, not even in your own home. Even there, you must respect the law and others.
