Why this petition matters

Proposed bill Ohio Senate Bill 3 will raise the bar for possession amounts and lower the penalties for major drug trafficking offenses, during Ohio's largest drug epidemic in history.  Presented under the guise of decriminalizing minor offenses related to those with substance abuse disorders, this bill proposal also decreases penalties for major drug trafficking offenses which is bad for Ohioans.  For example it raises the bar on bulk possession from 5 x to 50 x for major drug trafficking on Schedule 1 narcotics marijuana, GHB (the date rape drug), heroin, LSD, and ecstasy. Raises the bar for someone to possess up to 86 POUNDS of marijuana and only face a felony 3 charge, increases the amount of cocaine one can carry up to 50 grams for a minor felony, increases the amount of LSD up to 50 grams from 20, and the list goes on from there. It also decriminalizes dealing marijuana at or around school grounds completely.

Last year alone over 4,800 people died of overdoses in Ohio.  Lowering the penalties for dealer level possession will only bring more death and suffering to our already broken families and communities in short SB 3 is bad for Ohio families and communities.  We are asking the Ohio Senate to VOTE NO on SB 3.
