Some families have been advised that a 4 story apartment building with 71 apartments for non tax paying rental residents will be built at 300 South 12 Street on the corner of Third Avenue. This means there will be an impact on local infrastructures such as Fire Stations, school places and transport. It’s a huge influx of population on an already struggling and in an area of poverty.

So, does New Hyde Park School really need more rental apartment to be developed?

Parking in this area is already a struggle as well as traffic with part of Jericho Tpke which is very close to the proposed property. How will the 70 or more cars the proposal has in it be accommodated when we have seen an increase on dangerous driving in the area, limited spaces for on road parking. Traffic congestion coming out of this area will be a huge issue on a one road in, one road out system. 

No provision has been made for the loss to local residents, their community area and the general feeling and welfare. We are concerned by the impact of this project and feel a lot of thought needs to be put into local infrastructures before it goes ahead.
