We strongly urge the Girl Scouts of the USA to change the packaging on the Girl Scout cookies to a recycled exterior cardboard box and to use environmentally friendly packaging on the inside. 

As leaders, we are dedicated to guide our girls through the journeys of their choice. In 2017 Girl Scouts of the USA came out with new journeys, among them were: “It’s Your World-Change It,” “It’s Your Planet-Love It,” and “Outdoors.” The main message of all three of these journeys is taking care of and enjoying the planet we live on. There is also the WOW journey that focuses heavily on water conservation, reducing waste and recycling. We know that the best way to teach is to lead by example. For this reason we think it is absolutely necessary for the Girl Scouts of the USA to change their packaging so that they can proudly follow the message the journeys are teaching. For this reason we are requesting that future cookies be packaged in recycled cardboard boxes and inside packaging be changed to a more environmentally friendly product. 

As Girl Scouts we are taught to follow the Girl Scout law. In that law we are asked to: respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place and be a sister to every Girl Scout. My sister Girl Scouts and I are asking through this petition to reconsider and change the packaging of our Girl Scout cookies. We believe by making the packaging environmentally friendly we will helping to make the world a better place for ourselves and future Girl Scouts. We want to enjoy camping and live in a world where our oceans and lands are free from plastic waste, and where animals can live in a clean environment. We understand that we can not change the past but WE can change the future. This is our planet, we love our planet, and we will fight to change the actions of companies that do not keep the well-being of our planet in mind.

As a volunteer, consumer, and citizen I am signing this petition because I am concerned about the welfare of our planet. I whole heartedly support this petition and request that the Girl Scouts of the USA change the packaging of the Girl Scout cookies to a more environmentally friendly cardboard box and change the interior packaging to a more environmentally friendly product.  

This petition was created on January 8, 2020, the day the Girl Scouts of Jersey Shore had their cookie meeting and were informed that the 2020 packaging had changed. Please sign this petition by March 10, 2020 so we can present it to the Girl Scouts of the USA, and they have time to review our requests and change the packaging for 2021.
