Why this petition matters

Gambling is big money in sport, and nowhere can this be seen more than in Scottish Football - with leagues, cups and teams all sponsored by betting companies.

Celtic FC states that it is a club for all, open to all. Does this include gambling addicts?

In April 2019, Celtic went beyond the shirt sponsor, stadium flag, pitch advertising, and in-house betting booths and offered a chance of tickets to the possible title-clinching match against Kilmarnock if fans deposited 20 pounds with online casino Mr Green. There were 10 pairs of tickets to win with a value of a few hundred pounds - how many thousands will be spent, and how many will activate an addiction?

This crosses a line - asking people to complete to win tickets for a crucial game whilst inviting them into an addictive activity with online slot machines is dangerous.

Celtic FC should agree to rethink their policy on accepting sponsorship for gambling companies. It should cast a more critical eye on its offers to fans in relation to gambling. Celtic's turnover is breaking records - it must be possible for the club to search for viable alternatives to such extreme agreements with their gambling partnerships.

I am a season ticket holder and fan. I believe that Celtic FC and its related foundation often represent the best of the city of Glasgow and the strong heritage of charitable action. I want to see Celtic be more critical of its decisions and look after its fans.
