Why this petition matters

Started by An Du Thinh

Leaving a positive legacy: Proposal for Sarah Everard's Law - The criminal defence team cannot build or support a case based on what clothing the victim was wearing. This will hopefully be in the form of a bill amendment to be brought forward via a local MP.

Sarah Everard's case tragically demonstrates that what a woman wears in public should be no cause or deterrent to her being targeted as a victim of violence. The decision to cause harm always rests with the perpetrator. It is now 2021 and about time the Law and Courts recognise this fact.

She was just walking home.

*If the Everard family would like to take over this petition or have it removed, please let me know and I will do so immediately.

**The reason I chose to also include Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave in the photo is that I felt he spoke to the press with sincerity and concern as a father and a male who cares for women in his life and in wider society. (This was also before the events at Clapham Common Bandstand...)
