Why this petition matters
Maggie Walker was the first woman to found and serve as president of a US bank. She was also a pioneer in the early civil rights movement and a strong advocate for women's rights. She helped make 1920's Richmond, Virginia the "birthplace of black capitalism" and was finally memorialized in her hometown with a statue in her honor in 2017. The time has come for Maggie Walker's contributions to be recognized nationally for her contributions towards making the United States a more equitable and free society.
The students of Good Shepherd Episcopal School in Richmond are spearheading an effort to have Maggie Walker commemorated on United States postage. Please join us in signing this petition to support of our efforts.
