Petition to the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation & Parks

Attn:  Pickleball at Petit Park, Granada Hills Recreation Center

We represent local Pickleball players who reside in or near the city of Granada Hills, CA 91344. We have been playing Pickleball at Petit Park of Granada Hills Recreation Center since it officially opened earlier this year. We have been using one of the four tennis courts which was permanently converted to 4 Pickleball courts. Overtime and by word of mouth, more and more players started to show up to play Pickleball here at Petit Park every morning while the remaining 3 tennis courts sit empty. 

The reason for this petition is for the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation & Parks to consider converting the adjacent tennis court into 4 additional permanent Pickleball courts or make it a shared tennis/pickleball court with permanent lines and nets for both venues. This would still leaves 2 dedicated tennis courts on the other side of the fence which are under utilized anyway. 

Why play Pickleball? You asked. Playing pickleball allows you to work on your balance, agility, reflexes, and hand-eye coordination without putting excessive strains on your body. Pickleball is a wonderful alternative for older players who used to play tennis, but have physical limitations such as hip, shoulder, knee, or other joint problems.

Over the last few years, pickleball has been rising in popularity. In fact, pickleball is considered one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States. According to the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA), there are over eight MILLION players, and that number is quickly growing. Due to the soaring popularity of this decades-old game, many parks and recreation departments are now adding pickleball to their sports programming.
