All Airports to Provide Water Fountains and Reduce Plastic Bottles
All Airports to Provide Water Fountains and Reduce Plastic Bottles
Why this petition matters
Tales of a Backpacker has launched the #BYORB campaign to encourage everyone to BYORB (Bring Your Own Reusable Bottle) to the airport.
Every time I go to the airport I am horrified by the amount of single-use plastic bottles that people buy every time they fly. As we are not permitted to bring more than 50ml of liquid through airport security, airports should provide drinking water for us so we can use our own bottles and don't have to buy more plastic
Although some airports are now doing so, too many airports around the world are not providing clean water for us to drink - they expect us to buy it from retailers in a single-use plastic bottle. We need all airports in the UK and around the world to provide adequate water fountains so people can fill up their own bottles after security.
It is estimated that if every passenger in Heathrow departures lounge refilled a bottle instead of buying a single-use plastic bottle, Heathrow could reduce its plastic bottle consumption by over 35 million bottles a year!
I'm starting this campaign in the UK, but imagine what a difference we could make if every person at all airports around the world could fill up their own reusable bottle - this would make a huge difference to plastic waste, and save us all money as we wouldn't need to buy a bottle of water every time we take a flight.
As well as airports themselves, this petition is also aimed at retailers who sell single-use plastic bottles at the airport. We all need to work together to reduce plastic waste. Why force people to buy a bottle of water when they can bring their own bottle to refill? Please sign and make a difference today!
