Use Brexit Ferry money to replace the Career Development Loan #FuturesNotFerries
Why this petition matters
In January 2019 the government closed the Career Development Loan. A scheme open to anyone aged 18-69 wanting to improve their chances on entering the job market.
As of 2014, this loan had enabled over 304,000 people to improve their employability, through technical or management training, diplomas and specialist courses.
No alternative funding has been put in its place.
Yet the same government was happy to blow £13.8m on a ferry company which didn't even have any ferries, Seaborne Freight.
Since their deal fell through (because the Irish company backing it pulled out, not because they didn't have any ferries), I decided to start my own ferry company without ferries: Another Company Without Ferries Ltd.
The government should give us the £13.8million that was going to go to Seaborne Freight, so we can use it to replace the Career Development Loan.
If they're interested, we'll sit down with the Education Skills and Funding Agency to discuss the best way to improve access to the training schemes and courses which, without the CDL, have no funding available.
Ideally we would use the money to replicate the terms of the CDL: a loan with a low interest rate, on which the student doesn’t have to pay interest until after they finish their course.
That money was going to go to a completely pointless company anyway. It might as well go to one that's going to do something good with it.
Thank you for your help.
