Why this petition matters

Started by mary Ellis

As a suffer of Potato allergy  I am petitioning for it to be recognised by the government (Secretary of State for Health; Chief Medical Officer) and parliamentarians, as a first step towards asking food retailers to put pressure on their suppliers to find alternatives to potato byproducts in the foods they produce. I have found it increasingly difficult to find foods I can safely eat.

Many people eat sweet potato (a yam) because of this allergy, which can be both painful and deadly, yet potato and its byproducts are increasingly used in sweet potato foods, which is counter-productive in the extreme.

At least two scientific studies endorse the existence of this allergy, and point out that other causes have been blamed for the subsequent reaction, in the past.

Potato allergy is not just unpleasant for the sufferer, but can prove deadly, just the same as other allergies (peanuts, dairy produce etc.).

By supporting this petition, you will be helping save lives, and you should bear in mind that an increasing number of people are sufferers, many of them as yet undiagnosed, and even unaware of the cause of their potentially serious reaction.

Thank you for your kindness in reading this, and hopefully, your support.
