Why this petition matters

Started by Keep Highbury Moving

Keep Highbury Moving.

Whilst we support Islington Council in its efforts to reduce non residents using Highbury’s streets as a cut through, we do not support the recently announced restrictions of roads in Highbury to local residents.

Since the redevelopment of Highbury Corner and the one way system at Gillespie Road, a lot of traffic is being redirected via their sat navs onto our side streets causing rat runs and an increase in traffic. It is these people from outside the area that the council should be stopping, not the local residents.
All the traffic is going to be forced onto the main road towards Rock Street and Blackstock Road/Highbury Park/Highbury Grove or Holloway Road - roads which are already often at a standstill. We can only envisage more delays on the bus routes, and increased pollution on the main roads - where many 100s of people live, work and shop.

In signing this petition we call on Islington Council to keep the roads open for local residents,  using the technology already available such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition.
