Why this petition matters
PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION IN SUPPORT OF THE METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT HORSE UNIT
The MPD Horse Unit was established in 2002. The Horse Unit was created to be a community-oriented ambassador for the department. The Horse Unit was, and still, is a huge success with the citizens of the District of Columbia. Recently, the members of the Horse Unit have been assigned different tasks that did not include the usage of OUR horses. The MPD has now decided to DISBAND the unit for budget cuts—$70K—the actual cost to run the unit annually. This amount is an immeasurable amount to pay compared to all of the good will that we’ve displayed as part of the community events, block parties, parades, crowd control, high-visibility details, inauguration, family days, graduation ceremonies, funerals, and traffic control. The list is endless—not to mention, the bond the members have established with their horses. It pains us to see our unit disbanded over false narratives. Please sign the petition and save the MPD Horse Unit.
