History has been a testament that man has always been unperturbed to his growing contribution towards pollution which has damaged and caused negative impacts to the wildlife and our environment. The greatest evidence is the unplanned extensive use of plastic resulting in landfill crisis in our very country, Australia.

In spite of knowing the harm plastic as a material causes to the environment, we are hell-bent on producing new plastic rather than reusing it. Mere 12% of plastic waste generated in our country is recycled. If this doesn’t baffle you or bother you as an Australian citizen, wait for your next local holiday destination to be full of plastic waste robbing away the beauty and the sereness of the place. 

Plastic is everywhere and an issue of massive proportions. Plastic consumption has become an integral part of our lifestyles. We can’t substitute it but we can at least reuse it.

The Problem

Environmental:
One-time plastic use is becoming not only an issue but also a nuisance that is drowning Australia towards landfills. Only a minor part of plastic is getting recycled while the rest is being dumped into landfills. Beside these wrongful depositions as waste, it gets distributed into smaller parts within different areas that is life-threatening to our unique and beautiful flora and fauna. 

Economical:
One of the largest contributors to plastic waste in Australia are the fruits and food packaging found in supermarkets. The raw material (reusable plastic waste) for the manufacturing process of the plastic packaging is sourced from other countries. Why? We don’t have the right infrastructure within our country to process our plastic waste into raw material for manufacturing plastic packaging. This results in increased manufacturing costs and supermarkets to rely on cheaper alternatives which are mostly manufactured from overseas waste. This leaves our homegrown manufacturers to struggle for business while we knowingly are filling the pockets of overseas manufacturers.

The Solution - our campaign Remade In Australia: 

We need to use our plastic waste. No country or company overseas is interested in purchasing our waste or solving our crisis. Only we can help ourselves. Hence, in order to solve this rapidly growing issue we propose the following:

To mandate all Australian supermarkets to use only Australian made plastic packaging manufactured by reusing Australian plastic processed waste

For the above to be achieved we need to reuse plastic and the same can only be achieved by building and developing the required infrastructure within Australian. This will help us to safeguard or stunning and precious land while also contributing in helping our Australian plastic manufacturing businesses flourish.
