Why this petition matters

Started by Chevening Alumni

We, the undersigned Chevening scholarship recipients from different years and different countries urge you in restrained anger to immediately reverse the morally repugnant decision to not allow Afghan students who have received the Chevening Scholarship to come and study in the UK, due to “administrative reasons.”

Afghanistan is in the midst of an armed conflict and thousands of Afghans, including the prospective students, are in a vulnerable situation. The UK decision, shameful and bereft of any moral compass, leaves these young hopefuls stranded and in a situation of dangerous precarity.

It is disgraceful for a scholarship that underlines its mission to “enable future leaders to study in the UK” and create “positive change around the world”, to halt that academic journey of those who can actually bring about hope for Afghanistan.
